Lanterns in the Wilderness: Find Your Spark (BYO-Cabin Virtual Retreat)

Friday, Oct. 16 - Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020

Have you been struggling to find your deeper purpose, channel your creativity, or simply get adequate rest in this season? Whether this pandemic time has been lonely or overwhelming, contained job loss or homeschooling, or left you seeking meaning in your life and work, a retreat from the world can be just the refreshing reset your soul needs. Though we can’t gather in person, we can still go on retreat from wherever we are! (You’re invited and encouraged to book a socially distant retreat location near you and join sessions by video; more info below.)

This retreat with the Rev. Callie Swanlund will remind you that you’re not alone and give you tools for illuminating your path again. We’ll gather wherever we are for time set aside to reflect and reset. As an Episcopal priest and Certified Daring Way Facilitator, Callie will draw on scripture and the work of Dr. Brené Brown to lead you on a journey of Finding Your Spark. The retreat begins at 6 pm Eastern/3 pm Pacific on Friday, October 16 and goes until Sunday, September 18. Sunday’s session will be “on demand” to accommodate commitments, check out times, and time zone differences. The retreat rate includes retreat facilitation and materials (including a mailed mini swag bag for those registered by October 1). Please note that you will cover your own meals, transport, and accommodation. See additional details below; feel free to email Callie for additional information!

What You’ll Come Away With: a renewed spirit, tools for articulating your values and gifts, a plan of next steps for surviving this wilderness time, wisdom from scripture and Brené Brown, and a few surprises!

Who This is For: folks of all ages and genders who are seeking their purpose in life. Whether you’re pivoting your career, trying to center yourself while overseeing schooling for your children, experiencing loneliness, or figuring out your purpose post retirement, you’re welcome here. It is not a requirement that you be Christian, though this is facilitated by an inclusive Episcopal priest. We will draw on stories from the Bible, and there will be prayer and worship opportunities throughout the retreat. If you’ve joined one of our retreats or series in the past, you will find lots of new material.

What to Expect: A retreat is time set apart from the world. This retreat will offer time for reflecting and sharing within an intimate group where trust is built, as well as time for solo nourishment (naps, movement, stargazing, hikes). In this interactive setting, you will be asked to be vulnerable but not pushed beyond the boundaries you establish.

Accommodations & Additional information: We strongly encourage you to reserve an airbnb, cabin, or other remote location (but not too remote—wifi is needed!) for the duration of the retreat. If you cannot for budgetary or safety reasons, please set aside a quiet space at home where you will not be interrupted for the weekend. Callie will be hosting the retreat from a lakeside cabin near her home. Tips for finding the perfect location on airbnb: search for a beautiful area within 2-3 hours driving distance, enter your price range, take advantage of the filters to select wifi, add the option of unique stays like tiny houses or house boats, and more. You might also consider finding your closest Episcopal Camp & Conference Center and see if they are reserving private accommodations. Callie is happy to help you find something that will be a good fit near you; just reach out! Please remember that you will need to plan your own meals, so find a place with a kitchen or somewhere with nearby takeout options. You may wish to extend your stay on either side to enjoy more retreat time! Please also make sure you have a laptop or tablet with camera and microphone, as you will need to join the remote zoom sessions by video.
