Now & Not Yet: An Epiphany Journey (BYO-Cabin Digital Retreat)

Thursday, Feb. 17 - Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022

The Epiphany journey is one of now and not yet. As the Magi followed the Bethlehem star, they likely had moments of wonder and awe alongside roadblocks and exhaustion. While the star was always guiding them onward, their path was long. Many of us find ourselves in a season of now and not yet, as the pandemic continues and impacts our health, our plans, and our dreams.

Whether your journey feels hopeful or harrowing, a retreat from the world can be just the refreshing reset your soul needs. Instead of gathering in person, we will join in retreat from wherever we are! You’re invited and encouraged to choose a retreat location near you (an AirBnB or a quiet guest room, perhaps?) and join sessions by video; more info below.

This retreat with the Rev. Callie Swanlund will remind you that you’re not traveling alone and give you tools for finding your guiding star. We’ll gather for time set apart for reflection, rest, and connection. As a priest and Certified Daring Way Facilitator, Callie will draw on scripture and the work of Dr. Brené Brown to lead you on an Epiphany journey. The retreat begins at 6 pm Eastern/3 pm Pacific on Thursday, February 17 and goes until Saturday, February 19. Saturday’s session will be “on demand” content (video, writing prompts, guidance for structuring solo retreat time) to make space for going deeper on your journey, and allowing for potential checkout times and time zone differences. The retreat rate includes retreat facilitation and materials. Please note that you will cover your own meals, transport, and accommodation (if applicable). See additional details below; feel free to email Callie for additional information!

What You’ll Come Away With: a renewed spirit, tools for articulating your dreams and gifts, next steps for your journey, wisdom from scripture and Brené Brown, and a few surprises!

Who This is For: folks of all ages and genders who are wanting to reconnect with God, themselves, and one another. Whether you’re questioning what’s next or looking for strength to continue onward, you’re welcome here. It is not a requirement that you be Christian, though this is facilitated by an inclusive Episcopal priest. We will draw on stories from the Bible, and there will be prayer and worship opportunities throughout the retreat. If you’ve joined one of our retreats or series in the past, you will find lots of new material.

What to Expect: A retreat is time set apart from the world. This retreat will offer time for reflecting and sharing within an intimate group where trust is built, as well as time for solo nourishment (naps, movement, stargazing, hikes). In this interactive setting, you will be asked to be vulnerable but not pushed beyond the boundaries you establish. Our sessions will take place on Zoom, but you will not be sitting in front of a computer all day; there will be lots of open space, and guidance for how to use it to meet your needs.

Accommodations & Additional information: We encourage you to reserve an airbnb, cabin, or other remote location (but not too remote—wifi is needed!) for the duration of the retreat. If you cannot, please set aside a quiet space at home where you will not be interrupted for the retreat. Tips for finding the perfect location on airbnb: search for a beautiful area within 2-3 hours driving distance, enter your price range, take advantage of the filters to select wifi, add the option of unique stays like tiny houses or house boats if you wish, and more. You might also consider finding your closest Episcopal Camp & Conference Center and see if they are reserving private accommodations. Callie is happy to help you find something that will be a good fit near you; just reach out! Please remember that you will need to plan your own meals, so find a place with a kitchen or somewhere with nearby takeout options. You may wish to extend your stay on either side to enjoy more retreat time! Plan to stay Thursday & Friday night, and possibly Saturday night if your schedule/budget allows. Please also make sure you have a laptop or tablet with camera and microphone, as you will need to join the remote zoom sessions by video.
